The Science of Reading isn’t just for classrooms—it belongs in libraries, too! This presentation highlights how librarians can support evidence-based literacy development while keeping programs joyful, inclusive, and play-based. It also explores how libraries can offer programs and resources that empower parents and caregivers to understand and support the Science of Reading at home. Discover simple ways to strengthen early literacy and reading skills while staying true to the heart of library service.

This three-hour virtual workshop will begin with an overview of the Science of Reading, introducing the research base and key components behind effective reading instruction. The second hour will focus on implementing the Science of Reading in library programs, offering practical examples and strategies for applying these principles in library storytimes, outreach, and family engagement. The final hour will be dedicated to sharing a wide range of ready-to-use resources that library staff can utilize in their work and share directly with patrons.
