Mother Goose on the Loose is an award-winning early literacy program that shows parents how to play and grow with their child. Children practice self-regulation and develop school readiness skills; parents learn about child development while interacting with their children in joyful, loving ways. After a brief review of findings in brain research and theories of learning, participate in a hands-on program. Experience how Mother Goose on the Loose combines language, books, illustration, music, movement, and creative interaction to create an optimal learning environment that builds literacy and executive function skills while also strengthening parent-child bonding. Take home these rhyme and song activities and adapt them to your own settings!

Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen, a children's librarian with a Masters in Library Science and a Doctorate in Communications Design, has a unique perspective on children’s learning from her experience working in public libraries, children’s museums, home daycares, and a preschool. She combines the understanding that children learn best through play and that the earliest years are the most important for brain development with belief in the right of all children to be the best they can be. Betsy is the creator of the award-winning Mother Goose on the Loose© early literacy program, Mother Goose on the Loose: Goslings© for parents with babies in neonatal intensive care units, and Mother Goose on the Loose: Hatchlings for expectant parents and parents with newborns.© A prolific writer, creative thinker and charismatic presenter recognized for “revolutionizing the way storytimes are presented to young children at libraries across the county,” Betsy was chosen as the 2022 recipient of the Association for Library Service to Children’s Distinguished Service Award.
