Studies have shown the benefits of adding an element of gaming to reading challenges and initiatives.  With this in mind, the Casey County Public Library has remixed an eight-month reading initiative called Reading Dragons, developed by Dover Public Library in the style of popular collectible card games.  This session explores what Reading Dragons is and how to get started. This includes tips for successfully implementing the program, as well as many pitfalls to avoid and lessons learned along the way.

Sammie Betler is the Interim Director of Casey County Public Library. Sammie took special interest in gamification while pursuing her MLS and continues to find ways to promote reading for all ages. When not working, Sammie spends way too much time reading, binging shows, and obsessing over dragons.

Jocelyn Embert is an Adult Programmer and circulation clerk at the Casey County Public Library, focusing on programs to bring adults into the library. Jocelyn also organizes and runs the Reading Dragons program, created to encourage patrons of all ages to read more. When they're not working at the library, Jocelyn spends time helping the Friends of the Casey County Library and reading far too many books.
